Developmentally Disabled

Donald is now 61 years old, but his intelligence level is around 8-10 years old. He is currently residing in a group home in Hamburg, N.Y. Unfortunately, the manager of the home is abusing him by manipulating and coercing Donald. We have notified the management team of his house about these abuses since December 22, and yet, up to this present moment, we, the three of us – my oldest sister Cindy, youngest brother Tom, and myself (Nadine) – have been explaining the abuses and continue to fight against them to get answers as to why this is happening.

For instance, Donald’s weight has ballooned to 312 pounds, with a height of 5’10”. This weight gain has led to him developing Cellulitis due to obesity and inactivity. Our battle is to expose these abuses and bring about change and hope. As Donald’s sister who loves him and acts as his voice, along with Cindy and Tom, I request support in fighting for the necessary changes. Finally, today we were able to obtain a clean mattress (full bed), replacing the filthy twin bed that the house manager had allowed Donald to sleep on for over 11 years. It is important to note that the attempt to order another twin bed is impractical since Donald does not fit in that frame due to his weight. This is clear abuse that must be addressed.

My heart goes out to you and your family. I’m praying that dramatic changes for good will happen in Donald’s life, in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ. May your family experience the peace and presence of God and may people of integrity and truth come into Donald’s life to advocate and support him physically, mentally, and spiritually.

God’s power is made perfect in weakness. He will take care of his beloved child Donald through the people around him like his sister, you and your siblings. May God give you the strength and wisdom to partner with Him with a loving heart to bring a positive change to the life of Donald and the people in the similar situation. Amen!
